» Meaningful Work from Tricotomania
There has been some discussion around the homeschooling blogs about Melissa's Rule of 6. I have been thinking about the last one, meaningful work, because Tigger has been doing quite a bit of it. Including baking bread. The bread idea [Read More]

Belated happy homecoming wishes to you all :).

I'm not able to spend as much time as I'd like on the computer, so I'll have to hope for some nasty weather so I can catch up with a cup of tea...

Lissa this is so beautiful - and simple. And practical. Thank you.

Wonderful thoughts!

Maria

ohh I love that!!!! Thank you.

Jennifer

It is a great framework for lovely days. And a lovely childhood.

This is just so wonderful...and it really helps to see that you do a day in review with your children, and visualization of the fingers and hand.

And I love your point about putting prayer last because you remember it most.

Alice

Loving the Rule of Six, Lissa! Thank you for sharing your motherly wisdom with us!

The Rule of Six reminds me of a Goethe quote I have had framed on my wall since before I even had my child. It came from a Literary Calendar, which, sadly, I don't think is being published anymore. Anyway, the quote is:

One ought, every day at least,
to hear a little song, read a good poem,
see a fine picture, and, if it were possible,
to speak a few reasonable words.

Thanks you for your blogs. They inspire and entertain me!

I too, loved and "borrowed" this idea on my blog (with credits to you fo course...) It is such a wonderful idea and I didn't want to forget to "visit" the idea again and develop it for our family.

I really love this idea and I am glad I found your blog as I am working on revamping our goals and routine for homeschool. I thought as I read your rule of 6 - I could do that, and what a meaningful day each day would be if we did all of those things!
I would like to hear more about how you incorporate the beauty aspect. I have 4 boys, and my attempts to introduce beauty through the arts and nature have been mostly flops. They do love classical music, or any music, but any time I invite them to try some art projects with me, or crafts, or dancing, they are generally not too excited. They also tend to ask 'can we go inside now?' when I take them out to experience nature - part of this problem I'm sure is that they want to play the electronics that are in the house, even though we limit them to only a half hour a day. (I would prefer even less but that is a huge improvement over the past for us, and the gadgets are my husbands so they can't be thrown out altogether). Anyway, I would love some ideas on how to make finding beauty more appealing to them, as beauty is also something my heart hungers for and that I feel happiest when I am helping to create! It too often gets left in the 'impractical - get around to this later' pile. But beauty is really necessary food for the heart.

Did I not comment here? What happened? I was coming back to see if there was an answer to my question, and I don't see my question.
